4 good luck charms for 2014

Good luck charms weren't my thing until recently, as I don't really believe in luck. However, I do believe in good design and into weaving material things with good memories, so I kinda changed my mind. Here are my 4 favourites by greek designers for this year:

Prigkipo

The Prigkipo girls made one of the most minimal and easily wearable charms this year. Made out of 925 silver in gold, black platinum or sterling silver finish, their charm looks like an old coin (on purpose) and you can wear it either as a necklace or a bracelet. It costs 23-25€ (depending on the finish) and you can find it in Prigkipo's Etsy shop and at their little workshop in 16 Thisseos st, Athens.

Zoulovits

This cute and really affordable 2014 good luck charm shaped like a home was created by Zoulovits for the SOS Children's Villages. 1€ out of its 12€ price will be offered to their cause. Yazzt Design

Yazzt Design is Antonis Kiourktsis and Antonella Nikolopoulou, two architects who make jewellery by scanning parts of the human body, translating them into 3D polygons and then 3D printing them using metal. Their 2014 good luck charm "Made on You" was designed by tracing the curvature of a woman's clavicle, translating it into a 3D polygon made out of 14 triangles and 3D printing it in bronze and silver. Zolotas

For the more old-school kind of you, here's the only traditional jewellery shop 2014 charm that passed my test. Zolotas made a whole collection of charms based on the ancient greek myth of Alcyone, where the halkyon birds got their name from. And when I say a whole collection, there are 35 pieces to chose from, from silver to gold to diamond-encrusted-platinum. Don't worry, they don't all break the bank. This gold-plated silver charm is totally affordable at just 30€, plus it's not year-specific, so you can wear it as jewellery forever.

Making a statement for Accessorize Greece

When someone calls you and asks you to show up, get your hair and make-up done by prοfessionals, adorn yourself with bling and get your picture shot by a proper photographer, you don't say no. 

And if that someone is Accessorize, you may or may not also squeak with excitement.

This season it's all about baroque and adorning yourself with as many sparkly and shiny things as you can, just because you can. I chose to go with gold and green, as it's one of my favourite jewellery combinations, and wore them with a red blouse, creating a decadent late 70's vibe. Disco glam is one of the most misunderstood versions of pure, anapologetic glamour, and I feel it needs a little more love and attention.

By the way, excuse the awkward look. I was actually going for sultry, not grumpy, but you know those things don't always turn out like planned. At least my accessories were fabulous!

The other half

Summer may be long gone, but we don't need to abolish all summer doings. One I'm definitely planning on keeping is my multiple arm candy.

This year's most notable arm bling acquisition was from Greek brand IMISI that makes colourful ribbon-like bracelets, embossed with empowering quotes.

Every quote has its other half, which you can order along. Or you can wait and see if you'll bump into another person wearing it. Great conversation starter if you do, no?

Her Humble Workshop

Kudos to that little sneaky friend of mine Angela, who after joining me for a visit at last December's The Meet Market, returned the very next day to buy this for me and surprise me for Christmas.

The girl who created this necklace is Naya Ferentinou...

...and mhw stands for my humble workshop. No need to be so humble Naya, your work is amazing!

She does have an etsy shop, but it seems to be kinda inactive, so I'd suggest you hop downtown next time there's a handmade jewellery bazaar and see for yourselves.

These is just a selection of the turquoise jewellery I packed for my vacation. The thing with turquoise is that you can really wear it with just about anything in summer - maybe except other shades of blue.

Yellow gold

I believe most of us despised yellow gold when we were growing up. We thought of it as tacky and kitsch and probably something that only our moms and aunts would wear.

Well, in this past few years I slowly started to grow fonder of gold jewelery, to the point where they are now the majority of my collection.
