Last outfit of 2008...

...and at the same time, first outfit of 2009!
Photos taken before I left for the New Year's Eve party.

However, Frida the cat didn't seem very impressed...
Jewel embellished top, ZARA. Brocade skirt, Benetton. Brown heels, ZARA.

Happy New Year everyone!

Not bad at all

Two thousand and eight has been a great year for me, in general and fashion-wise. This is why:

I got a sewing machine. And used it. More than once.
I lost my on-line shopping virginity. And didn't regret it.
I attended the Athens Fashion Week and participated in the workshops. Quite an experience.
I changed the way I dress. This past year, I realized jeans feel really restricting and uncomfortable for me and that I don't have to wear them just because most people live in them. Since summer, I've been wearing skirts and dresses most of my time and I have never felt more comfortable, stylish or pretty.
Last but definitely not least, back in April I started this blog. Since then, so many wonderful things have happened to me because of that. Through this blog I became more creative, I learned to take better pictures, I got published in Canada(!) and most importantly, I met all of you amazing people! Some of you even in person (hello Rebecca!). Thank you so much!

Here's to an equally wonderful 2009!

Sistah

Is my sister seriously channeling some serious Comme des Garçons vibes here, or is it just me?

Sister is wearing:
  • Black harem pants by greek brand Attrattivo (the same style as the ones my sister and me both already have in linen, seen here)
  • Gray coat by Bershka (the one I found for her back then)
  • Black lace-ups by Clarks, recently bought at an outlet for half the original price. I loved them too, but they only looked good on her skinny legs...

There's no pill for bad style

Spent a large part of my Sunday afternoon keeping company to my mother, who is a pharmacist. Yeah, some of you may have guessed it. Free cosmetics for someone who really isn't a cosmetics kinda gal. How ironic... I hadn't ever noticed before how colorful it is in there, until today. Great background for photos...

My dearest friend Angela came by and we went for a cup of coffee, but not before I took her picture. She is definitely not the shy kind, but she insisted on a "no face" policy. At least "not her OWN face". I obliged.
Our friend Manos, who is the exact opposite of shy, surprisingly had the same request and proceeded to find his own solution before I cartoonized him too. Other than his face, this picture also allows just a partial view of his style, which is quite good actually. For a guy...
Love ya!
I also have some very rare and hard to get pictures of my sister being quite the fashionista, but I think those deserve their own post. Till tomorrow!

Country girl

That's my sister above, picking "koumara" from a bush. As a newly found family tradition, we go on an outdoors excursion the day after Christmas, along with our parents' friends and their kids. We ride on 4x4s, stopping to gather mushrooms and berries, eat fruit straight from the trees or to just walk among the bushes and get our "nature fix" in general. Works wonders for the "oh God, we had so much to eat" post-Christmas guilt, too!

We had lots of fun, but there was a rather unfortunate event. At some point, my sunglasses (seen in the first picture) fell off as I was leaning over a bush, searching for mushrooms. I didn't realize it immediately and when I did, it was too late. I was already ten to twelve bushes away. I searched briefly, but to no avail. It was hopeless... All there was to do was grief briefly and move on.

I miss you, my dear green and pink Von Zipper Rockford sunglasses!

However, I did find a beautiful blue feather lying on the grass and picked it up. I didn't want to put it in my pocket and ruin it, so I just stuck it in my hair. After a while I found another one, this time black with little white splotches, and doubled the fun. As you may have guessed, there are no any mirrors in the middle of nowhere, so I didn't have any chance to see how I looked before I came home. And it was not bad, may I say...

Like mother

Remember those booties? The ones my fabulous mum got?
Well, I helped her style them into an outfit for Christmas Eve.The dress was actually too long, but I suggested a belt to gather up some material and to also define her waist. The shrug was actually her very own touch. My mom got it 25 years ago when she was on her honeymoon in Spain and had never worn it before, till this day.
Rings any bells?

Oh, and for what I wore...I went for the 40's glamour look. Seemed quite appropriate.

I hope you all had a merry, merry Christmas!
XOXO

Yo mama

Who's a fierce mama? My mama, that's who!
Just look at what she just bought to wear on Christmas eve: And while she's supposed to never wear heels, she insists these are amazingly comfortable. I believe her. She would never buy them otherwise! I'm hoping I'll be able to convince her to pose for me tomorrow, all dressed up with her new amazing booties. Go mama!

Back with the folks

When I arrived home from the airport last night, there where two things that welcomed me back. A Christmas stocking filled with Kinder chocolate on my bed (thanks mum)...
...and a new family member, Frida the siamese cat.
It's a cute story actually, my mum got her as a birthday present for my dad back in October. She is young, but very calm and cuddly and sort of likes blogging too. Well, she likes to sleep on my lap while I type away on my laptop. That counts too, I guess.

Fashion at the airport

I was hurrying through the Athens International Airport this morning in order to buy some perfume before the plane left without me, when I saw this girl wearing that amazing floral skirt. Or dress. It doesn't matter. When I saw it, I knew immediately I had to make time for at least one - albeit, crappy - photo.
Even now, I still can't stop looking at it!

From Volos to Athens

I left Volos yesterday looking like this.
I only had time for an outfit picture inside the elevator.
How typical...Fortunately, no neighboors were watching over this time. The only weird stares I got were from the - otherwise friendly - elevator Santa. Yes, we have a gift-bearing Santa Claus decoration inside our appartment building elevator. It's opposite the snowman.

Obviously, I arrived in Athens in the same outfit. I have absolutely no changing-in-extremely-confined-spaces powers, like Mr Superman. I sat down with my sister - yes, it is my sister rocking the red coat and matching pant cuffs in that last post - and we had a casual talk. At some point I got up to go to the kitchen, and this is more or less the dialogue that followed:
  • Sister: I didn't notice earlier, but what the heck are you wearing?
  • Me: What? You mean the colours? It's a brown skirt, a cream cardigan, a green t-shirt with King-Kong wearing a red t-shirt, magenta tights and gray shoes. Is it bad?
  • Sister: Well, there are many colours...
  • Me: Well, if you didn't notice all this time I've been sitting here, maybe it's not that bad afterall.
Is it?

If Rebecca had a twin...

...they would wear matching clothes in contrasting colours.

Yesterday, I read this post by The Clothes Horse that instantly travelled me back to my childhood.I'm the big one.
The one that accessorizes with a matching My Little Pony.

Little miss sunshine, not.

This is what I wore two days ago, when I went to Mango. Just my usual uniform of a high-waisted skirt, graphic tee, cardigan, scarf, tights and ballet flats. Is it getting boring yet? I haven't been able to shoot any new outfits and in the days to come things are only going to get even more hectic. Tomorrow I'll be driving from Volos to Athens and on Sunday I'll be on a plane to Samos, to spend the holidays with the family. I'll try to post till then, but I'm not making any promises!

Little Miss Sunshine t-shirt, present from my sister. Brown baloon skirt, refashioned out of a BERSHKA dress. Beige scarf, MANGO. Gray cardigan, BERSHKA. Magenta wool-blend tights, CALZEDONIA. Gray ballet flats, PULL AND BEAR. Brown leather bag, MASSIMO DUTTI.

If you stop buying $800 shoes, their price will lower.

And it makes sense. Read this article on New York Times. And this one from the LA Times. They were both actually written back in March, but you know what they say: Better late than never.

Tuesday 16 December 2008

WTF?

No, not the dress. The dress was quite nice, actually. I didn't get it, but Angela, if you're reading this, this dress will be perfect for you.
But still, I'm quite confused...
It's not even Christmas yet and Mango is already selling their SPRING SUMMER 2009 collection? Am I the only one who thinks this is weird, if not plain wrong?
