Fashion Week Athens, a bad start?

Well, if I had to use one word, and more specifically, one not too mean, it would be downsizing. That is, always compared to what was happening six months ago:
  • Three days instead of seven.
  • One catwalk instead of three.
  • 12 shows by greek designers instead of 21.
  • Zero shows by foreign designers instead of 8.
  • No workshops.
  • No fashion-related movie projections.
  • No interesting fashion crowd hanging around.

I could go on and on, but it's only day one, so I'll give it all a chance to improve. And I should mention - in the organizers' defence - that there actually is a photography exhibition by former-male-model-turned-fashion-photographer Spyros Poros and there is also an exhibition of the creations of last fashion week's workshops. Both exhibitions are open to the public.

Those of you who can read greek, do pay a visit to Stella of Shopping Therapy (who I happend to bump into at the Workshop's Exhibition). She has written a hillarious post about exactly what happened outside the Makis Tselios show, and other fun trivia. Those of you who can't read greek, here's the short version: Old ladies screaming at the bouncer, because they weren't allowed into the Makis Tselios show, even with invitations. The show was supposedly already full.

I think I would scream too.

When will it end?

Just another outfit, still two days delayed.

I am in a terrible rut here... Same skirt, same shoes, same belt, same everything! These clothes have served me well during the winter months, but I am just incredibly bored of them right now. I long for summer to come, just so I can bring out my summer clothes. And shoes! I was just going through my blog archives and I realised that I have some really fabulous summer shoes, and I had totally forgotten about their existence. Talk about instant gratification.

Thanks for your opinions on my tights/no tights question on the previous post. I guess, I will wear my last pair of opaques in a week or two, but maybe go on until the start of May with some lighter patterned tights. I guess footless tights are also an option, but I still haven't decided how I feel about them. If I wear tights, I want my tootsies covered, dammit! What's the purpose of tights that leave your feet out to be cold and miserable?

Too many questions, too late at night. Going to bed. Fashion Week Athens starts tomorrow and I'll be doing some covering for Ermou Magazine. I'd better be fresh-faced and rosy, right?

Two days ago...

...it was Monday. My camera was going through a phase where it thought it was a Polaroid (check the jeans picture, no Poladroid editing took place) and yes, I actually wore jeans.

Dark wash high-waisted jeans, ZARA. Grey knit sweater, BERSHKA. Blue and white scarf, BERSHKA. Necklaces, BULL&BEAR. Black ballet flats, CAMPER.

Spring is always challenging for me, fashion-wise. I never know exactly when to put away my tights and go barelegged in my skirts and dresses, so there's always an awkward transitional period where I inevitably turn over to jeans. Which I hate. So, I'd like to do a mini survey and decide once and for all when it's time.

When do you start going barelegged?

Does it have to do with temperature, say "once it hits 20C"?
Is it a certain date, like "after May 1st"?
Do you have a transitional period, when you decide differently each day by checking the weather beforehand?
Or, is it pure instinct?

Help please?

Fancy coming to Fashion Week Athens?

A brief intro first, and then onto the fashion stuff:
I know most of you wanted to hear all the details about my new job and even more after I said I would be holding it a secret for a while.
You curious kittens!
Well, change of plans. I decided to spill the beans and tell all now: I work for neTWire, a web design firm in downtown Athens, and my job is running ermou.gr, an on-line guide about shopping in Ermou, the most famous market street in Athens. The reason I was holding out is that the site is getting a make-over really soon and I wanted to introduce you straight to the new, improved and fabulous site, when it would be ready. My job also includes writing about the shops and the fabulous new things one can find there in Ermou Magazine, the site's official blog.
Why I had to tell now? Fashion Week Athens starts this weekend and here at the ermou.gr headquarters, we managed to acquire ten double invitations to the NEWCOMERS* SHOW, a group fashion show where the most up-and-coming hot names of young Greek fashion, (namely Dimitri Zafiriou, Dimitris Petrou and DELIGHT) will be showing their collections for fall/winter 2009-10. And here's the thing: You can win one of these ten double invitations, simply by leaving a comment on Ermou Magazine's last post here and stating what you would like us to write about. It's a win-win situation, really!

If the comments are more than 10, my boss will hold a draw. I really hope some of my readers will get lucky, so if you're reading this and you can be in Technopolis, Athens on Sunday, March 29th at 10:30, go leave a comment now!

Working girl

First of all, I would like to thank all of you who left comments congratulating me on my new job, and generally all my loyal readers who have been patient enough through my first - and almost postless - work week.

So, yes, I am now a working girl. I'll bear the boring details and move straight to the important aspects of my new working life: There is no dress code. Meaning I don't have to wear collared shirts and medium-heel pumps and look like an extra from Boston Legal. That doesn't mean I can wear sweatpants either. Not that I want to! Hell, I don't even like to wear jeans any more. So, my first week at work, I wore exactly what I would if I haven't been working: Dresses and skirts. Now, I believe I have mentioned before that I am not a morning person. And because of that I was terribly late most days, which meant no time for outfit pictures. However, I managed to quickly snap my Wednesday outfit in the conference room. Here it is:

Blue-grey tulip skirt, MANGO. White t-shirt, BERSHKA. Black cardigan, MANGO. Grey ballet flats, PULL&BEAR. Necklaces, PULL&BEAR.

Thursday, once again no pic, but on Friday, I finally found some extra 5 minutes before I left to set the camera on the bedroom window and snap these:

Camel-coloured knit dress, ZARA. Burgundy cardigan, MANGO. Light grey pashmina, some bazaar in Turkey. Polca dot tights, CALZEDONIA. Brown studded belt, MANGO. Grey ballet flats, PULL&BEAR.

So, there you go. My first two work outfits. My goal this week is to have time for a good breakfast and nice outfit pictures every morning, and still be on time for work.
You hear that boss?

New job, old habits

Hi everyone! Guess who's been a bad blogger... That's right, yours truly. Once again, I let several days pass me by without a single post.

On this blog that is.
Because, guess what: I got a job and it involves blogging!
I'd rather not tell much more right now, but soon I'll be able to share some links.

On other news, there's another festival that starts tonight at BIOS club, here in Athens. My boyfriend and another close friend are participating, so I'll be there all three nights. And that's some sort of open invitation to whoever wants to have some casual fashion/blog/whatever talk over drinks. Or just wants to tell me my blog sucks. Yes anonymous people, face-to-face is always more rewarding. For both of us.
See you there, friends and foes!

(will upload work outfit pictures soon, promise)

What A Story

Last night I payed a visit to Tell A Story designers' tradeshow, held at BIOS club, Athens. I was stunned! So much talent going on there. Clothes, jewelry, accessories and many other things, all handmade by young Greek designers.

I was particularly impressed by Euangelia's dresses...

...Theia's corsets, that are made-to-measure for each customer...

...and this girl's boots, which is irrelevant, since they weren't part of the show, but I just had to shoot and post them.

I have to say, one of the reasons I went to the event is that a friend of mine was actually participating. Her name is Constantia and she always manages to pleasantly surprise me with her handmade little treasures. You simply must see for yourself on her flickr.

That white curtain thing you see on the picture above is one of her designs, made with those plastic thingies that handymen use to hold wire.

Well, I'm actually terribly late to write about all this now, as it started on Thursday and finishes today (Alecca Rox did a much better job writing about it back on Tuesday) but if you really want to catch it, hurry up! It's open until 22:00. Otherwise, you can still find many of the original designs in Occhi Concept Store or you can contact the designers personally.

Scott and Garance sitting on a tree

I don't usually post gossip and such here on this blog, but I couldn't resist this juicy one. It had me actually scream OMG out loud:

Scott Schumann
and Garance Doré
are a couple!

Get up, get dressed, get out the door

This is me, early this morning. Hence the face. At least, I've finally managed to put some real clothes on. And let me tell you, there was box-digging and cursing involved in order to do that. It's ten times harder getting dressed when everything is all over the place. Why can't everything just get organised automatically? I want a pretty closet ASAP!

Ok, enough with my ranting. I also did some minor shopping today, but I'll take pictures of that tomorrow. Right now, I've just finished putting a door in my bathroom - with some help of course - and I'm really sleepy.

Oh, I almost forgot...

Grey knit skirt, BENETTON. Black t-shirt, ZARA. Green long cardigan, MANGO. Yellow scarf, H&M. Bright pink ballerina flats, some random shop in Volos. Black belt, used to be my grandma's.

Goodnight!

Scary, right?

But I did it. I assembled my IKEA BEDDINGE sofa-bed all on my own, this morning. And I'm feeling rather proud right now. Ridiculous, I know, since IKEA stuff is meant to be assembled easily even by the slowest of people, but still... Colourwise, I wanted the purple cover I had been lusting over in the catalogue, but they bluntly told me it has been discontinued, so I got a brownish green instead. Now that I have put the rest of the sofa together, I'm thinking of returning it and making my own cover instead. After all, the cover was actually the most expensive of the three sofa parts you have to get (140 euros for the cover, 125 for the frame and 110 for the matress). I don't know if I am getting overly optimistic about my sewing skills, but how hard can it be to sew together two INDIRA bedspreads, 10 euros each? Piece of cake, I tell you. And that way, I can put the 140 euros towards this amazing TIRUP swivel chair. That thing totally swallows you whole! In a good way, of course.
And hey, I know this blog is in the verge of loosing its fashion interest, but unfortunately there are no pictures of my walk-in closet yet. I am working on it and I believe it will be ready for its first photo shoot in a day or two. But, I'm afraid that even then, it won't be in its final state. Smells like those eternally "work in progress" projects. What I do know is that I have to get it in a functional state sooner or later so I will be able to get dressed in the mornings in something else other than sweatpants, so expect visual input soon!

Still a mess

Hey, sorry I haven't been posting, but my new home is still a mess and I really haven't been in a blogging mood. I'm constantly opening boxes, rearranging furniture and generally moving things around the house. Oh, and drooling over Apartment Therapy and the IKEA catalogue every couple of hours. Like all the stuff I already have isn't enough... Ughhh!

As you can imagine, I haven't been wearing anything blog-worthy. Just some ancient black sweatpants, a plain t-shirt and my Converse trainers. I'm starting to get itchy for an actual outfit. But my closet is still a mess too. Oh, did I mention? It's a walk-in. Nothing big, but it is an actual separate minuscule room. I hope I can bring it to an acceptable state soon so I can share some pictures.

That's all for now... Be back soon!

I'm so tired

...but at the same time, very happy.

Greedy girl

I know, I know... I'm inexcusable, right? I promised a shoe-shopping extravaganza photo shoot four days ago and failed to deliver...

Until today, that is! So here you go, freshly taken pictures of my new babies for your eyes only:

I am a greedy girl, right? To my defense, they were exactly what I've been looking for (I'm a sucker for chunky-heeled maryjanes and I was looking for oxfords since September), the price was more than right and I've already wore four of them! And that's something, considering I hardly left the house with all that madness these last two weeks.

As for the absence, well, I have an excuse. A good one, actually: I'm moving to Athens in two days and my whole life is currently going in cardboard boxes. By the time you'll be reading these lines, these shoes will be packed too. However, my trusty laptop will be the last thing to go, so I hope I'll be able to post once or twice more before I leave.

Now, if you'll excuse me once again, I'm off to more packing!

Oh, I forgot to mention, there's another pair of yummy shoes I got, but I'm saving it for next week, when I'll be in my new home.
Just a hint for now: Chie.

This is ridiculous

I'm too hangover to write something witty about this picture. Let's just say I'm glad I wasn't actually wearing my favourite grey cardigan when this happened last night.

But really, man.

Once wasn't enough?

Outfit pictures at last

This skirt may seem familiar to some of you. That's because it's the same skirt I bought several weeks ago in blue. I loved it so much, I couldn't resist grabbing it in grey-khaki as well. And as I was already in Mango and sales were still going strong, I also got this cute red cropped cardi. It's perfect for injecting some colour in the basic high-waisted-skirt outfits I always end up in.

And to tell you the truth, these are not the only things I got. A full-blown shopping extravaganza took place and I really must hold a proper photo session in order to show you all my new stuff. Let me just tell you this: there were several pairs of shoes involved.

Tulip hem skirt, MANGO. Red cropped cardigan, MANGO. Black t-shirt, ZARA. Dove-grey pashmina, from a bazaar in Turkey. Black patent belt, MANGO. Black maryjane heels, some shop in Volos.
