Grey matter

Nice, but not quite "me".
Shift dresses are amazing, but I still don't feel they could be part of my everyday wardrobe.

Not yet.

Grey wool shift dress with matching belt, ZARA.

Thanks girls, I know it's quite va-va-voum! But - there's always a "but" - there are a number of reasons keeping me from adding it to my collection:
1. It's a tad bit tighter in the bottom part than I'm comfortable with (Mairyliscious you're right). Very sexy, but I feel I could hear a rip sound as soon as I try to sit down. Not good.
2. The material looks like it's of very good quality, but being wool it does feel a bit scratchy too.
3. Where would I wear it? In my everyday life, I don't dress like a secretary from Mad Men. A much as I'd love too...
aaaand 4. I should reaaaally stop spending money.

Killer curves!!! When you find pieces like that you just buy them, and hoping for a special occasion!!

haha!i share your feelings so much! I also tried a pencil skirt in zara which was sooo nice but then i started thinking :"ok,but I dont have nice high heels","and everyone will look at my ass","i cannot even tie my laces or get the pen from teh floor", but now i regret not bying it!
ps)and I say all these because this dress looks amazing on you!!!

I agree, looks amazing, but all your reasons make sense to me. Still, it's the kind of dress you want to make an occasion to wear -- one where you don't have to sit down, it's cool enough that the wool is warm but not scratchy, a 50's costume party, etc. Haha.

hey, i'm totally with you on that.
i've tried that same dress in the begining of the season, and although it looked perfect on the rack, it didn't fit at all! it was too loose and wide on the top + neckline and too narrow at the bottom (as you mention).
but they do have a similar skirt (grey/pencil), i'd like to try on

hmm.. i get what you mean but i think that a dress like this, is one of the must-haves in anyone's wardrobe!
so...i would say go for it even if you won't wear it that often!

It may look good in the pics, but the fit is actually just like Stella described it in her comment above: Too tight on the hips and with an ill-fitting, too loose neckline. A bad cut. And I'd prefer a softer fabric. Pure wool like this is better for a skirt, where it doesn't touch the skin directly to make it itch.
I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer to find my perfect shift dress.
