Hang in there little skirt

Oh, the mysteries of the universe. For example, why do all major clothes manufacturers - H&M, Zara and Topshop to name a few - insist on adding ribbons to their t-shirts for us to hang them by?

Hello? We have shoulders for that.

I'm sure lots of you fine people out there soon get fed up of constantly tucking away those little annoying bastards that insist on peeking out of your clothes and reach for the scissors to chop them off. Right? Cause that's what I do. And then, of course, you can't bear to throw away the ribbons, as (read in Valley girlish) they're like soooo cuuuuuuute. And then you end up with a bunch of cuuuuuuute ribbons (if you don't feel the need to use the letter U seven times, there's not enough cuteness) just waiting for you to transform them into some amazing DIY project you haven't exactly conceived yet.

Yeah, been there, done that.

Listen sistah, it just ain't happening.

On the other hand, we have the curious case of the ribbonless skirt. According to my totally scientific research, 93,7% of skirts don't come with ribbons on the sides for us to hang them from.

Can you guess where I'm getting to?

So, tonight is the night I will address this injustice. I officially declare this the sewing-the-hang-ribbons-cut-from-my-t-shirts-onto-my-skirts night. Let the sewing begin.

Good luck on your quest to make your skirts more hang-able!

i think i have a mini explanation for this. ;) tops and shirts hang on normal hangers. silk blouses for example (not all but many) slide out of the hanger. to avoid the dilemma of picking it up trillion times a day, tada! the ribbons. but skirts, shorts and pants for that matter are hung on `clippers´ (these hangers with clips on the side), they can´t fall down. i hope this helps solve the mystery.

Thanks Sal!

Mode Junkie, I know, slippery tops are a real pet peeve of mine! But lately I have noticed that manufacturers attach ribbons on garments like regular t-shirts, which most positively don't need them. I mean, I wouldn't cut them off, if doing so made them slip off my own hangers.
Maybe they overuse them in a "better be on the safe side" kinda spirit? I certainly don't mind... More colourful ribbons for me to play with!

i would never have the patience to do that!
plus i think that skirts lose their shape when hung on 'ribbons'

Stella: I find that this depends on whether the skirt is high-waisted or a regular fit-on-the-hips one. The high-waisted ones are more narrow on the top and they hang just right along with the hanger width. The more wide ones may indeed need a clipper hanger in order to avoid losing their shape.
