What is normal, anyway?

The writing on the wall reads AGAINST NORMALITY.
What is normal, anyway? And why is it so bad?
Boring is bad, but is normal a synonym of boring?
And am I just giving all this too much thought?

Green coat, Attrattivo. Gray knit wool skirt, Benetton. Orange leather obi belt, some local shop. Black scarf, Zara. Light gray scarf, H&M. Black t-shirt, Mango. Black leather boots, Inci. Gray-green tote bag, Mango.

From what I understand, "normal" has to to with statistics, and I'd never make it a synonym for "boring."

Additionally, this is my favorite outfit of yours EVER.

Chic ensemble. I'm not against normal...just people imposing what they think is normal on others. It's when you feel the need to conform to normal that life sucks...

A! Questions on normality...I love the subject, I swear discussions about it have no ending:) I'll agree with Sal too, normal is just stats. Not sure where boring jumps in. For example it can be seriously boring to constantly fight normality, how predictable.

I like the background you chose and in general the fact that this post makes your mind work beyond the outfit. Speaking of which, once again it rocks, we all love your coat! My winner today though is ur skirt, which -how predictably, I try to...knit!! x

If there is any interpretation of normality that I'm against, it would be complacency. If we accept being average or normal as a way to hide from the work it takes to do something extraordinary, we're wasting so much.

Great post!

you're looking fantastic there!! and what's wrong with being normal? sometimes we try so hard to stand out that at the end of the day, we lose a sense of who we really are.

These are lovely photos! I like how you layered your scarves over one another for a ruched effect. Was almost wondering if it was an interesting top of yours...
I doubt boring can ever be a synonym of normalcy. Though if we don't make an effort to spice up normalcy it can become boring...

I used to be bothered by people telling me to be normal. Those ideas of normality really hurt me in the past.

Fighting normality is the other side of the same thing though. What is extreme or weird might become normal ten or fifty years in the future. And then the cycle perpetuates. People telling us what is accepted and a minority struggling. Things change and then the same thing happens with different rules on normality and ethics.

I gave up on that. Sometimes it's just interesting to think about but that's it. One thing I wish for people who were hurt or insecure to act and think as they feel because there is no such a thing as 'normal'. It's all a lie even if others try to show you otherwise. They are geeks in disguise.

Maybe deeper understanding and self consciousness from the majority is what is needed but this isn't going to happen in the short run. People like to meme and copy attitudes and feel connected by the idea of a 'norm' and be negative to those who differ.

Just enjoy the absurdiness for the moment or discuss and read more about it.
